In 2013, I was the director of a doctoral thesis at the University of Nantes on this innovative subject. This means that, thanks to this 2-year project, I am helping make progress in a technique that absolutely requires practise. After major weight loss or ageing, there is effectively great demand for procedures that deal with this excess skin which “ruins” lives.
It is possible to remove these bulges, resulting in a scar that can easily be concealed beneath a bra. The operation concerns the back, as well as side bulges situated around the waist and the upper part of the abdomen.
The aim is clearly summarised in the following photos, in which the patient tightens the skin on her back and abdomen to show the result she is looking for.
The post-operative period for the upper body lift is very simple because the skin is not lifted. The only risk is that the scar widens a little more than in other parts of the body because the skin of the back scars less well.
For one of the patients operated on, the “before and after” photos are spectacular, and the scar is easy to conceal.
When sitting, there are 3 “spare tyres”. The upper body lift is the only operation that makes it possible to remove the top 2. The bottom one was removed using the lower body lift technique, performed at the same time.
