This is an operation that is rarely performed and that is used to remove the bulge under the buttocks. This bulge is situated under the buttocks and is known as the “banana fold” because of its shape. It can be seen through clothing and thus causes distress.
Many reasons can explain the appearance of the banana fold: ageing, weight loss… but the main culprit is liposuction, which leaves excess skin by removing a certain volume.
This bulge can be decreased using liposuction because there is always an element of fat involved. But more often than not, the problem comes from the skin.
The only solution is to remove it by creating a reasonably discreet scar in the fold beneath the buttock. However, the closing tension must be managed carefully because the scar can migrate at a later stage and become very visible once no longer in the fold.
This before-and-after example perfectly summarises the problem and how it is treated.
