The body lift is my favourite procedure because the results are always spectacular. Over the years, I have become the world n°1 for this operation because I have performed it more than 500 times so far in my career (the largest number for any surgeon in the world). I teach this technique all over the world, and I was the director of a doctoral thesis at the university in 2010 (lower body lift) and in 2013 (upper body lift) (see photos).
In the 1970s-80s, the operation became almost unheard of because of the old techniques that could be associated with a difficult post-operative period (lengthy recovery) and many complications (infections and poor scarring).
I have thus (with the assistance of my friend, Dr Claude LE LOUARN from Paris) completely reinvented this procedure, with the sole aim of eliminating the complications and improving the effectiveness.
The term “body lift” means removing excess skin from all over the body. It is a miracle procedure for lifting the buttocks and the inside of the thighs, as well as the stomach, pubis and front of the thighs.
If we only perform the posterior element of this operation, it is a buttock lift. If we only do the front, it is called an abdominoplasty.
In the end, we find ourselves with a circular scar, at the level of the waist, which can easily be concealed with a G-string.
There are many reasons for excess skin: ageing, weight loss (be it massive or not), liposuction, etc. Sometimes there is no real cause: the skin is simply soft, and the buttocks sag (doctors say it is congenital).
Thus, just as it is possible to lift a face, it is also possible to lift the body.
Naturally, if there are also problems with volume, it is possible to remove fat at the same time by means of liposuction.
The body lift is a procedure that is performed more and more often. The only real problem is its cost. Since severe limitations were placed on surgeons’ fees in December 2012, the French health insurance system no longer reimburses the procedure. The tariff applied by the French health service is effectively lower than the cost price for the surgeon.
The post-operative period
The body lift can be marked by several types of post-operative situations:
– fatigue: this is because the operation is rather long
– scarring: the process may be slowed down in certain areas, but the scars always end up healing. Sometimes we redo the scar at a later date to make sure it is perfect.
Pre- and post-operative photos. Case following massive weight loss of 80 kg. Despite the removal of a significant amount of skin, the volume of the buttocks has been preserved by recovering fat from the hips. The tightening of the skin on the outside of the thighs, the stomach and the pubis is also quite spectacular.
